At a currency-exchange booth

By Czech law you may cancel a currency-exchange transaction within 3 hours, in the same branch, for amounts up to the equivalent of €1,000 — a rule created specifically against booths that give tourists terrible rates. Exchange offices must now display only one (the least favourable) rate, so ignore any 'VIP rate for larger amounts' board. Better still: skip tourist-area booths and use a bank ATM.

Withdrawing cash from an ATM

An ATM can show its own access fee and offer conversion into your home currency. Check both before confirming. You can cancel and use another machine; when offered a currency choice, selecting CZK normally leaves conversion to your card provider. Prefer an ATM in or attached to a bank when practical.

Deciding whether to carry cash

Cards are widely accepted, especially in cities, but acceptance is not universal. Keep a modest amount of CZK for small rural businesses, markets, public toilets or a card-terminal outage. Do not rely on euros as backup cash.
