If you might drive after a drink
Czechia applies zero tolerance to alcohol when driving. Do not drive after even one drink, and remember that alcohol can remain the next morning. Police can require a roadside breath test; use public transport or a taxi instead.

Before you drive on a motorway
Most four-wheel vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes need an electronic vignette before using a tolled motorway. Check a rental car's licence plate on the official eDalnice site before buying anything. Use only edalnice.cz or an official sales point, enter the plate and country carefully, and keep the receipt.

On the road
Dipped headlights or approved daytime-running lights are required during the day. General limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them and 130 km/h on motorways unless signs say otherwise. Winter tyres are required from 1 November to 31 March when winter conditions exist or can be expected.
