Prague Airport car rental: pickup guide

Do not assume that landing and collecting a car must happen together. Prague Airport has regular public-transport connections to Metro A and Metro B, so a traveller spending the first days in central Prague can avoid city parking and collect a rental only when the road trip begins.

Airport pickup becomes more attractive when you are leaving Prague immediately, travelling with substantial luggage, carrying child equipment or heading to a place with a weak final public-transport connection. Compare the whole route and any one-way fee with a later city pickup before choosing.

Prague Airport states that the on-airport rental-company branches are on the ground floor of the Parking C Comfort building. Keep the supplier name, booking reference and pickup instructions available after landing; a broker's brand may differ from the company operating the desk and vehicle.

Check the desk's actual opening hours for your arrival date and provide the flight number when the booking asks for it. A delayed flight does not necessarily remove an after-hours fee or guarantee that every supplier will wait beyond its stated procedure.

Confirm the main driver's age and licence conditions, the accepted card type, deposit amount and available card limit. Also check whether the reserved class realistically fits the passengers, suitcases, pushchair or sports equipment. A vague 'or similar' category is not a promise of a particular model.

Review the fuel policy, mileage, additional drivers, child seats, winter equipment, border permissions, one-way charges and cancellation terms. Save the supplier's contact details and the exact pickup document list offline before departure.

Match the vehicle to the agreement and photograph the bodywork, wheels, glass, interior and dashboard. Ask for any existing mark to be recorded before driving away. Check the fuel or battery level, warning lights, required safety equipment and how to contact roadside assistance.

Do not let the queue pressure you into signing an insurance or deposit document you do not understand. Ask what is included, what the excess is and which damage categories remain excluded. Keep every signed or emailed document.

Many routes from Prague Airport can reach a Czech motorway quickly. Ask whether the vehicle already has a valid electronic vignette, then use the official state validity checker with the registration country and plate. Buying a second vignette does not improve coverage, while using an unofficial reseller can add avoidable fees or errors.

If the route crosses a national border, confirm written permission and insurance with the supplier before departure. A booking that is valid for Czechia is not automatically permission for every neighbouring country or ferry route.

Locate the exact return entrance in advance, not when the flight check-in clock is already running. Allow time for airport traffic, fuelling or charging, the vehicle inspection, baggage unloading and the walk back to the terminal. Follow the supplier's instructions rather than assuming the pickup route and return route are identical.

Photograph the car, dashboard and parking position at handover, keep the fuel receipt and retain the return confirmation until the deposit is released. For an unattended return, document the key-drop procedure and timestamp the condition of the vehicle.
